Tahira Menaždina

The name of Professor Jelena Obrazcovova, with whom she studied voice at the Moscow Conservatory, and a three-year engagement at Moscow’s Great Theater are certainly a sufficient guarantee of the vocal qualities of this soprano, whose interpretation of Puccini’s Cio-Cio-San has been appreciated not only by audiences at Moscow’s Music Theater but also by visitors to the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. Canadian audiences heard her Cio-Cio-San in the Italian original, which she performed for the first time for the Prague State Opera. Additional roles in this singer’s Italian repertoire are Puccini’s Floria Tosca, Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Abigaille in Nabucco, and the title role in Aida. She sings also Tatjana in Tschaykowsky’s Eugen Onegin.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
