Soloist of the Czech National Opera
Roman Vocel has completed his studies of singing at the State Conservatoire in Prague. He performs as the standing guest at the National Theatre in Prague, the Opera Mozart theatre, and the operas in Plzeň, Ústí nad Labem, and Liberec. In 1995, he became the soloist of the Prague State Opera. In 2003, Roman Vocel performed at the Prague Spring International Music Festival under the baton of Douglas Bostock (W. A. Mozart: Mass in C major), with the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK under the baton of conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky (Josef Suk: Epilogue), and he guest-performed at the Ireland Opera in Dublin (Don Giovanni – Comtur). One year later, he trained the part of “Sakristán, Lunobor, Domšík” in the opera The Excursions of Mr Brouček by Leoš Janáček at the National Theatre in Prague, under Sir Charles Mackerras. In 2005, Roman Vocel performed the part of “Spirit of Enkidu” in the epic of Gilgamesh by Bohuslav Martinů. He also works on a regular basis with the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK (L. van Beethoven: Ninth Symphony, A. Dvořák: Mass in D major), Capella Istropolitana (W. A. Mozart: Requiem), and the Czech Collegium Orchestra. Roman Vocel gives regular guest performances in Spain (Valencia, Barcelona, and Saragossa). He staged a concert tour of Japan in 2004 (Nagoya, Osaka, Yokohama) and also sang in Gewandhaus, Leipzig.
Roman Vocel recorded several CDs (W. A. Mozart: Requiem, A. Goldscheider: Requiem, B. Martinů: The Opening of the Wells, and The Legend of the Smoke from Potato Fires. He has recorded, e.g., songs by J. B. Foerster, K. Bendl, and V. J. Tomášek for Czech Radio.
