Pavel Dautovský

Pavel Dautovský was engaged as lighting engineer/designer with the Smetana Theatre, today’s Prague State Opera, between 1984 and 1989. From 1989 – 1994, he worked with the UNO Dance Group and Richard Hes, and contributed in the making of full-length stage projects, Checkmate; Carmen; Nikita; Billiards; Musical Fever (1991, Hamburg). The list of his lighting designs created since 1994 has included the productions of many various musicals, including West Side Story (1993, 2000); Dracula (Prague, Bratislava, Moscow, Seoul); Hamlet; Galileo (Prague, Bratislava); Monte Cristo; Jekyll and Hyde; Jack the Ripper, Golem, Baron Münchhausen, Carmen (Prague), of dramas (Familie, Adina, The Rainmaker, Theatre Na Vinohradech, Prague), of operetta Polish Blood (Prague’s Karlín Musical Theatre), and of lyrical Kudykam.

His assignments with the Prague State Opera since 1999 have included lighting for its productions of E.F. Burian’s Bubu of Montparnasse (1990); Giacomo Meyerbeer’s Robert le diable (1999); Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca (1999); Alexander Zemlinsky’s Es war einmal (2000); Philip Glass’ The Fall of the House of Usher (2001); Karel Weis’ The Polish Jew (2001); Antonio Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso (2001); P.I. Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades (2004); Leonard Bernstein: Candide (2006), and Benjamin Britten: Death in Venice (2009, based on Paula Constable’s design). In 1998, he and his associates founded the M.P.K. Stage Service s.r.o., a company whose commissions have included the management of stage operations for the Prague State Opera and for diverse musical theatre productions. He is also active as a technical adviser to various stage projects.
