Nathalie Prats

Costume designer

Nathalie Prats was born in Auxerre (France). She studied in Marseilles, earning a diploma in the field of history, focusing on Asian studies. From 1983 to 1989 she was an assistant costume designer for Patrice Cauchetier, and in 1986 she was awarded the critics’ prize for her collaboration on the opera Atys by Jean-Baptiste Lully directed by Jean-Marie Villégier. Since 1989 she has been collaborating with Jacques Nichet, with whom she has created such productions as Faut pas payer by Dario Fo in 2005 at the Toulouse National Theatre. With Philippe Berling she collaborated on productions of Peer Gynt at the Théâtre du Peuple in Bussang and of Beaumarchais’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Château de Grignan. For the director Stephen Taylor she created costume designs for productions of Mozart’s Idomeneo at the Lyon Opera in 1999 and of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (Strasbourg). She is currently preparing productions of Britten’s opera The Turn of the Screw in Bordeaux for November 2008 and of Verdi’s Il Trovatore for Geneva in June 2009.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
