Marie Fajtová

At Prague’s conservatory the soprano Marie Fajtová first studied piano with Professor Jan Novotný (1992-1998) and later on opera singing under the tutelage of Professor Jiří Kotouč (1998-2003). In 1994 she won first prize in the B. Smetana International Piano Competition. In 2004 she was a finalist in the A. Dvořák International Singing Competition, at which she was awarded the FOK Prize. Between 1998 and 2003 she collaborated with the Musica Bohemica ensemble. She has also cooperated with the Plzeň and Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestras. At the 2004 Prague Spring festival she performed in the role of Primislao in the baroque pasticcio Praga Nascente da Libussa e Primislao. Within the production of Prague’s National Theatre, she sang at the summer festival in Valtice in the opera Orlando furioso (the role of Angelica). In 2005, at the Opera Mozart summer staggiona she enacted Donna Elvira in Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni. At the present time, she is performing as Norina in Donizetti’s opera Don Pasquale at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. In 2006/2007 season she became the soloist of the National Theatre Opera in Prague and performes here f.e. Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Esmeralda (The Bartered Bride) and Despinio (The Greek Passion).

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
