Joo Wan Kim

Tenor Joo-Wan Kim was born in Korea. He studied at the Chung Ang University in the Republic of Korea, the Fausto Torrefranca Conservatory in Vibo Valentia, Italy, the AIDM Academy, and the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Beyond that, he frequented a number of master classes in opera singing, including a course at the Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona, Italy. He made his stage debut in Korea, in 2002, as Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor. His creations on the stage of the Bob Hope Theater in Dallas, Texas, included among other roles those of Martin (Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land), Don José (Carmen), Rodolfo (La bohème), Agenore (Il Re Pastore), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), and Martin (Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story). He has appeared on concert platforms in the United States, Italy, France, and Korea. He likewise presented his stage creation of Don José in Korea. Currently, he is a resident artist in the Beseto Opera Company.

The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
