A native of Seoul, soprano Hyun-Jung Kim studied at the University of Minnesota and at the Arizona State University, Tempe. While still a student, she appeared as a soloist with the orchestra and chorus of the Arizona University, and in song recitals. Apart from that, she also performed in opera productions, as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro (1995), Adina in L’elisir d’amore (1997), Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites (2000), and Arminda in La finta giardiniera (2008). She is the laureate of several competitions, where she received first prize in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition and second prize in the Minnesota NATS Audition (1999), and reached the final round of the State of Arizona Competition (2009). In the summer of 2010 she returned from the United States to Korea, where she sang Frasquita in Carmen in September of that year. In July 2011 she will be appearing at the Seoul Arts Centre, as Mimi in La bohème.
