Frédéric Pineau

Frédéric Pineau has been successfully working in costume and stage design for several years. He does not shun all various genres in his work; he has designed costumes for opera, drama and even the Paris Disneyland. His original artistic style is based especially on charm and the contrast of modern and quaintness, no matter if the work is pretentiously extravagant inspired by the world of the fairy tales of The Thousand and One Nights (for example Die Enthführung aus dem Serail, Turandot, La Reine de Saba), a soberly polished style (Parsifal, Carmen, Tosca, Lucie di Lammermoor), or expressing the greatest disproportion of Baroque (Madame l’Archiduc, La Dame Blanche, La Clemenza di Tito, La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein).

He regularly attends with his designs the famous Festival Massenet in Saint-Etienne from the time of its commencement (Cléopatre, Panurge, Thais, Le Roi de Lahore, Roma, Hérodiade, Werther, Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame).

His watercolours have been exhibited at many exhibitions in Paris and abroad.

Tomáš Vrbka
The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
