Vivaldi is one of the best-known Baroque composers thanks to his instrumental concertos. In his time, however, he was very successful as an opera composer and entrepreneur. Later his operatic output was neglected, but in recent years audiences around the world have had a chance to become acquainted with his musical-dramatic works. In the Czech lands this has not yet occurred, despite the fact that Vivaldi probably spent the years 1730–1732 here and several of his operas even had their world premiere in Prague. His opera Orlando furioso has not been staged in the Czech lands since 1732, so our production will be the modern Czech premiere.
