The State Opera Chorus
The history of the State Opera Chorus goes back to the Grand Opera of the Fifth of May, when the chorus master was Vladivoj Jankovský. He and his chorus continued their work even after the fusion of that company with the opera of the National Theater, and he still assisted after 1992 when the State Opera was founded.
The State Opera Orchestra
The State Opera Orchestra and the opera chorus are the only entities that perpetuated the tradition of the Grand Opera of the Fifth of May after its fusion with the opera of the National Theater in 1948. Both of these ensembles continued to exist as independent components – under the titles Smetana Theater Orchestra and Smetana Theater Chorus – until the State Opera was made an independent organization in April 1992.
